Each year members of the team spend two hours a week with an assigned Thurmont Middle School student. The time is divided between academics, sports activities, and a refreshments period.

The reading assistance program allows team members to work in the elementary and middle school setting in an effort to improve the student's reading skills. The program originated at Emmitsburg Elementary School and has now been moved to Thurmont Middle School.

The Mount Saint Mary's Crop Walk is a project coordinated by the College's office of Community Service Learning under the directorship of Mr. Joe Purello. This office is part of the College's Campus Ministry program. The 10 mile walk around College Mountain is for the benefit of hunger relief operations of the Church World Service.

Twice each semester the team canvases the campus, tin cups in hand, collecting money for the less fortunate and/or a project designated by the Campus Ministry and Community Service Office. Since the fall of 1997 the team has collected over $3,550. The ENTIRE TEAM is involved in this project.
Our college is located near historic Emmitsburg Maryland (circa 1757) and occasionally it needs a little" elbow grease". In this project (fall 1998) the team repainted "no parking" curb sections.

A new project for the team wherein players go once a week to visit the elderly. We completed our pilot program fall 1999 and will move into full activation in spring 2000. The 1999 Pilot program members were Chris Mitchell and Derek Zornow.
